Emerges as the favourite colour in ethnic wear in 2016

Craftsvilla.com, the largest online ethnic store, recently announced that Blue was the favourite colour in the women’s ethnic wear segment in 2016. This was on the basis of the analysis done of purchases made in the year 2016 in the women’s fashion category including sarees, salwar suits, lehengas and kurtis. While black is an all-time favourite amongst women and bright colours like pink and green are also top choices in the ethnic category, blue beat them all to make it to the top.

In the year 2015, maximum number of women’s ethnic apparel sold was in black colour. However, in 2016, black fell to the number two position with blue taking over the number one spot. Another interesting entrant is white that featured at the number three position in 2016. White was at the number eight position in 2015. Consumers are experimenting more than ever when it comes to ethnic fashion and that trend has trickled down even to their colour preferences.

Seasonality also plays an important role when it comes to these choices. For example, during the festive season there is higher demand for brighter colours with metallic (golden, silver or copper) prints or embroidery. In case of monthly data, preference was more towards black and gold towards the end of the year, which could be a result of the onset of the party season.

“There is a lot of demand for off-beat choices like pastels, purples and greens. We are expecting green to become a top favourite amongst consumers this year,” adds Craftsvilla’s stylist team. Pantone has also announced ‘Greenery’ as the colour of the year 2017.
